Rambo McGuire along with many other of Southern Gospel Music's best and brightest gathered on April 21st at Trinity Broadcasting Network's famed Trinity Music City in Nashville along with singer-songwriter Michael English as he hosted the Southern Gospel Music Guild's 2015 Harmony Honors.
The annual Harmony Honors recognizes the top singers, songwriters, quartets, groups, and innovators in this unique American musical genre that has comforted, inspired, and entertained generations of fans.
This year's event honored the late Dottie Rambo and the late Rusty Goodman, two legendary songwriters who helped to define the distinct sound and inspirational message of Southern Gospel Music.
Throughout her life Dottie Rambo composed over 2,500 Gospel songs, many of which have been recorded by such diverse artists as Elvis Presley, Whitney Houston, Jerry Lee Lewis, the Oak Ridge Boys, Andraé Crouch, Sandi Patty, George Beverly Shea, and even legendary Hollywood and stage actress Carol Channing. Among Ms. Rambo's most beloved songs are “He Looked Beyond My Fault and Saw My Need,” “I Go to the Rock,” “If That Isn't Love,” “On the Sunny Banks,” “Sheltered in the Arms of God,” and “We Shall Behold Him.”
A member of the legendary Happy Goodman Family, Charles “Rusty” Goodman is one of the most recorded writers in the history of Southern Gospel Music. His many songs—covered by such artists as Elvis Presley, the Imperials, J.D. Sumner and the Stamps Quartet, and the Gaither Vocal Band—include the classics “Had It Not Been,” “Leavin' on My Mind,” “How Much More Does He Love You and Me,” “Standing in the Presence of the King,” “John the Revelator,” and “Who Am I.”
Among the musical guests for this year's Harmony Honors was Rambo McGuire, Goodman Revival, The Nelons, Joseph Habedank, Blackwood Brothers Quartet, The Bowling Family, Jim Brady Trio, The LeFevre Quartet, The Perrys, The Browders, Three Bridges, Freedom Quartet, The Isaacs, The Old Paths Quartet, Mark Trammell Quartet, Gold City, and Tribute Quartet.
TBN Vice President Matthew Crouch noted that the warm harmonies and down-home inspiration of Southern Gospel Music is woven deeply throughout TBN's 42-year history. “Beginning with our Praise The Lord programs and summer camp meeting services aired during the network's early days, folks like Dottie Rambo, The Happy Goodmans, and other stalwarts of Southern Gospel Music have inspired, blessed, and entertained generations of TBN viewers,” he said. “We were thrilled once again to welcome the Harmony Honors to Trinity Music City and the Trinity Broadcasting Family of Networks.”
